Black Saturday

Black Saturday it is. I get off work at dawn. Ride a bus then glance at the sky and there it was, bright and big and scary and amazing and wished I am holding my treasured camera to capture that beauty. And so I get off the bus, ran so fast like I was running for life, to get to my house and get to our rooftop with that camera only to arrive too late and the moon was gone and it's daybreak. *sigh

PLANS PLANS PLANS...DECISIONS DECISIONS...

I have alot of things on my mind right now. So many that I cant think straight already. Im hoping to de-stress soon. I am looking forward to my Bacolod trip by the end of this month. Heck, i think im lucky to book that flight for a cheap price thinking its gonna be a long weekend due to some legal holidays. I will be with my Tito Obet, who I was with when we went to Cebu last year for a weekend getaway. Just pure relaxation, shopping, dining, and spa trips. I soo love reminiscing those moments. I loved Cebu.♥♥♥ Now, we're heading to Bacolod, no plans, just pure weekend fun. And I am sooo excited!!!☺

I also have my Boracay trip this coming mid-September with some college buddies and the boyfriend Bimbim. It's my boyfriend's first time in Bora and he's excited as hell after he missed our trip back in 2009 for the two of us, A friend of mine, Macky, used his ticket instead and we had fun nonetheless. This will serve as our anniversary treat to ourselves too since we are turning 5 years being together.♥

I wish i have lotsa money though. This weekend I have a lot of things to buy, 1st thing in mind is the Lippman nail polish I was gunning for. I wish im friends with Deborah so I wont have to buy anymore right? Oh, this is getting long now, and im tired typing already. Ciao for now. ♥

AVAIL♥

This is a term used in call centers when no calls come in for a long time that it's boring you to death already but you cant do any and just wait. It's quite okay though, but expect calls profusely coming in the next day, to which, we dont dare look forward to. For the meantime, i'm trying to busy myself by updating my blog that i havent even visited in a long while. I miss blogspot. *sigh

NAIA 1 rated among world’s 10 worst airports

By DJ Yap Philippine Daily Inquirer First Posted 04:50:00 04/13/2011 MANILA, Philippines—An interactive website has voted the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) one of the world’s 10 worst airports and the worst in Asia in 2010, with travelers describing it as “a bombed-out ruin” and “a cattle yard, only worse.” The website, “The Guide to Sleeping in Airports,” ranked the Manila airports, particularly NAIA Terminal 1, fifth worst in the world, behind two in France, including Charles De Gaulle in Paris, and the Los Angeles and Moscow airports. The ranking was based on reviews of air travelers who complained, among other things, of “safety concerns, lack of comfortable seating, rude staff, hostile security, poor facilities, no (or few) services to pass the time, bribery and general hassles of being in the airport.” Two lists of the best and the worst airports are updated annually by the website (http://sleepinginairports.net), which travel agent Donna McSherry started in 1996. NAIA actually rose two places in the list. In 2009, it was ranked seventh. Two other Asian airports made it to the worst list in 2010, both from India, in New Delhi and Bombay at sixth and eighth, respectively. On the other hand, the world’s three best airports in 2010, according to the website, were also in Asia: Singapore Changi, Seoul Incheon and Hong Kong, the same top three the previous year. ‘Bombed-out ruin’ Most complaints about NAIA concerned the old Terminal 1, which hosts all international flights except those of Philippine Airlines, which uses Terminal 2, and Cebu Pacific, Air Philippines and All Nippon Airways, which use Terminal 3. A reviewer named Brenty said of NAIA: “It has to be experienced to be believed. Think of a bombed-out ruin and you’ll get some idea. It’s like a cattle yard, only worse. Toilets filthy. No seating once you get through customs (maybe 40 seats for a thousand passengers).” “Bribery and corruption in this airport is rife and the scams start the minute you walk off the plane,” said another critic named Mecanix. The website, however, acknowledged that “there is hope at this airport if you go to Terminal 3 where it is clean, spacious and has Internet connection.” Improvements underway Manila International Airport Authority General Manager Jose Angel Honrado said he respected the feedback, but added that he hoped the public would see the improvements at NAIA. “We are aware of the deficiencies. We really appreciate the comments and we’re trying to correct these things. But please understand that this will take time,” he said. He also encouraged NAIA critics to visit Terminal 1 again and take note of the upgrades. He said they should understand that renovating a 30-year-old terminal is not easy. Honrado noted efforts to fix toilets at Terminal 1 and plans to put in “a new carpet.” He also said coordination with immigration and customs offices would hopefully eradicate bribery. For ‘spill-over’ flights In the next few years, he said “definitely” all international flights would move to Terminal 3 in spite of legal troubles involving compensation disputes with its builder, Philippine International Air Terminals Co. Honrado said the government clearly has a mandate to operate Terminal 3, and he sees no reason to put off plans to develop it until it becomes fully operational within “one and a half years.” He, however, added that Terminal 1 would still likely be retained for “spill-over” flights.

What Happened 5 years ago in China, and the Hostage Drama Crisis last month

The known facts are these:

On August 19, 2005, Emmanuel "Bong" Madrigal, a Manila-based Filipino executive of the multinational Shell, was visiting Beijing on vacation with his wife Vivian, his daugher Regina Mia, and two younger daughters. That day, they rode a tourist bus to Tiananmen Square, the heart of the capitol.

Upon arriving at the square, Emmanuel Madrigal was the first to descend from the bus, followed by Vivian and Regina Mia. A Chinese man wielding a scythe--in some reports it was described as a sword--suddenly appeared out of nowhere and hacked Emmanuel across his torso. He died on the spot. The man also attacked and seriously wounded Vivian. He then slashed at and killed Regina Mia. By this time, bystanders were trying to subdue the man, and Vivian shouted to her two other daughters to get away and save themselves. Somehow the girls made their way back to the hotel. Vivian was brought to a Beijing hospital, but survived.

An Associated Press report still circulating on the internet states that the killer was Wang Gongzuo, 25, a farmer from eastern China's Jiangsu province. He was sentenced to death for the murder of the Madrigals and executed a few weeks later, in September. The AP report states: 'Wang's motive for killing the two is unclear. After the incident occurred the Beijing Morning Post reported that he had wanted to 'affect society using extreme actions,' but didn't elaborate."

Reflect on the parallels. A family of vacationers on a tourist bus: the Leungs and the Madrigals. A killer out to "affect society using extreme actions": Mendoza and Wang. A massacre in a public place of symbolic significance: The Quirino grandstand, where the presidential inauguration had been held just weeks before, and site of the civil society protests against the Marcos regime; and Tiananmen Square, since ancient times the symbol of the centralized power of the Chinese state, and site of the 1991 civil protests against the government.

In both incidents, the state failed miserably in protecting innocent tourists.

And there the parallels end.

President Aquino has apologized to the families of Mendoza's victims and conveyed his sorrow to the people of Hongkong, Chief Executive Donald Tsang, and Ambassador Lin Jian Chao. The Philippine National Police acknowledge that they botched matters beyond comprehension. Philippine legislators, ahead of their Hongkong counterparts, called for a full investigation. Philippine media organizations are looking to their own culpability in the affair. And masses of ordinary Filipinos, on TV, radio, print, and the Internet, are expressing collective horror, remorse and pity over the terrible fate of the innocent tourists, and bow their heads in shame before the Hong Kong people's sorrow and anger.

That is how it should be, that is only right. But.

To this day, five years after it happened, there is no public record of any Chinese official acknowledging the tourist killings in Tiananmen Square and apologizing to the Madrigals, much less the Filipino people, for the murder of Emmanuel, Regina Mia and Vivian. Not a single expression of regret that the Chinese police failed in their duty to protect the lives of innocent tourists in the very heart of Beijing, in the symbolic center of a state that prides itself most of all for its ability to control and contain disorder. There was a total blackout on the part of the Chinese press, and, according to another news report, government censors quickly blocked many internet sites where Chinese users had begun to post comments about the killing. So we will likely never know what ordinary Chinese citizens had to say about about the incident. Maybe some of them were actually sorry for what happened.

The closest thing to expressed regret was in fact the final reported action of the killer Wang, who waived his right to appeal the sentence of execution, and got a bullet in the back of his head.

To add to the horror, it would appear that the Arroyo administration was complicit in the silence. No public statement was ever made by the Philippine government regarding the incident. Unlike in Hongkong, no flags were flown at half-mast in Manila, and no three-minute silence was observed to mark the deaths of the innocent Filipino tourists. No demand has ever been made by any Filipino official for an apology, and for an accounting.

A full investigation of the Quirino Grandstand killing is ongoing. But what of that other killing, also in August, five years ago in Tiananmen Square?

Transcript of hostage-taker's last radio interview

 via Inquirer.net

MANILA, Philippines - A transcript of hostage-taker Rolando Mendoza's last conversation with a radio broadcaster showed that he was willing to die during the August 23 hostage incident in Manila.

Mendoza talked with Radio Mo Nationwide (RMN) anchor Michael Rogas during the 11-hour hostage incident at the Quirino Grandstand in Rizal Park.

In one part of the interview, Rogas asked the hostage-taker if he wanted food brought to the tourist bus for himself and his 25 hostages.

(It's OK for me to go hungry. I haven't eaten because I know what my situation in life will be. I am prepared to die this day.)

He also revealed that he had spoken to Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez and told her that she would be at fault if anything bad happened to the hostages. Mendoza had asked the Ombudsman to dismiss all the cases against him.

"I talked to Gonzales and Gutierrez and told them: You are at fault if this gets worse," the hostage-taker told Rogas.

Below is a partial transcript of Mendoza's RMN interview as aired on a GNN report:

MICHAEL ROGAS: Captain, sa papaaanong paraan po ninyo gustong matapos itong isyung ito, itong sitwasyong ito?  (Captain, how do you want this issue, this situation to end?)

(They said the Ombudsman will review my case. What I want is for them to deliver the order if I'm really dismissed from service. The final order, saying I'm dismissed or was issued a dismissal order. That's what I want: final order. What they delivered earlier was just a letter. For me to be satisfied in front of my in-laws. That was wrong.)

(Captain, is there anything you want to tell the police? They are listening to the RMN radio station right now. Do you have anything to say, especially to the snipers?)

Ii-snipe-in ko 'kako itong nasa pintuan.

(These snipers, if they won't go away, I'll give them a sample. I'll shoot this one at the door.) Note: Masa Tse, the tour guide, was handcuffed by Mendoza at the door of the bus. He was eventually killed.

(Ok, it's now quarter to 7 p.m. What is your final decision?)

(I see a lot of SWAT coming. Many SWAT members are here, I see them all around. I know they are going to kill me. They should go away because anytime, I'll do the same here on the bus.)

(Who else do you want to talk to besides the media.)

MENDOZA: Eh yung pinaka reliable.

(Someone who is really reliable, who will tell me the truth. I don't want someone who will just tell me lies.)   MICHAEL ROGAS: Sino yun? (Who is that?)

MENDOZA: Media. Media lang din. (Media. I just want the media.)

At this point of the interview, Mendoza is watching on TV the arrest of his brother, SPO2 Gregorio Mendoza.

MENDOZA: Oh, yung kapatid ko nakikita ko, bakit nila ginaganyan? Akong may kasalanan dito, walang kasalanan 'yan! Walang kasalanan 'yan.

(I can see my brother, why are they doing that? I'm the one at fault here, not him! He's not at fault. Show me that he's being freed! Show me or else I'll start shooting the people here!)

MICHAEL ROGAS: Kalma lang po… (Please remain calm…)

MENDOZA: Sabihin mo sa kanila, sabihin mo sa kanila 'yan! (Tell them that, tell them that!)

MICHAEL ROGAS: Opo, tinatawagan na po. (Yes, we're already calling.)

MENDOZA: Ipakita nila, ipakita nila dito sa kaliwa, sa kaliwa! Makita ko sa kaliwa ng bus. Palakarin nila ang kapatid ko diyan! Pagka hindi… ito, talagang ano. Aanuhin ko dito lahat-lahat.

(Show it, show it at the left! Make sure I see it at the left side of the bus. Make my brother walk away! Or else, I'll… I'll…)

(Yes, we're already calling the Philippine National Police. Please take it easy)

MENDOZA: Wala naman kasalanan yang kapatid ko. Hindi nila alam ang pangyayari dito. (My brother is not fault. They didn't know what's happening here.)

(Please stay calm because we are now contacting the PNP. The police are also starting to calm down...)

MENDOZA: Ayan o, binibitbit 'yung kapatid kong pulis. Walang kasalanan 'yan, bakit nila bibitbitin yan? Pulis yan eh, walang kasalanan 'yan! Walang kasalanan 'yan!

(There! They're arresting my brother who's a cop. He's not at fault, why are they taking him? They'd say, accessory, he's not an accessory! I'm the only one who did this. I can see it. I see what they're doing to my brother. He's a cop, he's not part of this. He's not part of this!)

Walang kasalanan 'yan! Hindi niya alam ang pangyayaring ito. Ngayon niya lang nalaman sa TV. Bakit nila gaganyanin? Wala 'yan. Walang kasalanan 'yan!

(Let him go, or I'll shoot this one at the door! Tell them that. Tell them that! I'm seeing it here, it's on TV!  They're treating my policeman brother like a pig! He's not at fault. He doesn't know anything. He knew this just now on TV. Why are they doing that to him? He's not a part of this!)

MENDOZA: Ayun o. P*tangina! O, hindi nila pakakawalan 'yan? P*tangina! Oh, babarilin ko na ito! Pakawalan ninyo 'yan! Babarilin ko na ito!

(This will only get worse because of what the police are doing! Tell them that! [expletive] They won't set him free? [expletive] I'll shoot this person! Set him free! I'm going to start shooting!)

MICHAEL ROGAS: Sandali po. Huwag po kayong magpapaputok. Captain Mendoza… (To Erwin Tulfo) Pakibilisan lang yung ground commander…

(Hold on. Do not fire your gun. Captain Mendoza… (To Erwin Tulfo) Erwin, please hurry to the ground commander…)

(They already handcuffed him! If they won't set him free, I'll shoot this person!)

(Captain Mendoza, we're already helping you…)

MENDOZA: Wala dinederetso-diretso nila. (They just went through with it. If they go away and bring my brother, I am going to shoot the one in the front. I am going to shoot everybody.)

MICHAEL ROGAS: Captain Mendoza! Captain Mendoza!

At this point, Mendoza is no longer speaking to the interviewer as a commotion ensues inside the bus.

He later told the interviewer that he had shot 2 of the Chinese tourists and that he would kill everyone on the bus if the SWAT team does not go away.

Uubusin ko 'to! Uubusin ko to!

(I shot 2 of the Chinese. If they don't change the situation, I'm going to start shooting in here. I'll finish off everyone! I'll kill everybody if they don't stop running beside the bus. I'll finish off everyone!)

Oh Dear God, Please Spare Philippines from Typhoon Basyang.

I am so worried right now.  As I type this, I'm still currently at work and it's already 2:35AM yet the winds are howling like mad hell. Everybody's worried as to how they can go home or If roads are still passable. I might stay in the office to be safe, I know my siblings at home are safe but still I pray especially for the homeless. Please be safe and warm everyone. PAGASA will soon declare signal # 3 cos Typhoon Basyang continues to intensify.

July 10th- BimBim and I turned 45mos. and I love it!

We headed to Shangri-La for a treat and asked our friend Justine to join us for the Japan Film Festival "EigaSai 2010".

And cos it's free we had to line up just like movie enthusiasts and didnt expect it could take that long to wait, imagine waiting for at least 2hrs.

Good thing I had my BlackBerry Onyx and Bff Jusz had her iPhone, we didnt notice the long time of waiting cos we enjoyed games and apps on our mobiles. whew! We watched "How to Become Myself" and "Always Sunset on Third Street 2" But I lack sleep from Friday evening and so I fell asleep halfway thru the 2nd movie.

The next day, Sunday, we invited our friend, Janet

. And this time we wanted soo bad to get the tickets for "TOKYO TOWER Mom & Me, and Sometimes Dad" Justine and I cried soo hard and so does Bim and Janet, I think. They werent too obvious like Jusz and I were. Dyahe!

Wow! LiLo has a really neat and nice block penmanship.

"During the hearing on Tuesday that led to the starlet's 90-day jail sentence, the actor was seen writing with a red pen. Later, she covered her face with the page, inadvertently showing it to the cameras. What appears in high-resolution photos of that page will surprise anyone who thought Lohan was just a party girl: Turns out, she's an expert note-taker as well!

In meticulous, rather amazing block penmanship, Lohan appears to have recorded every bit of the proceedings. At the top, she notes, "Dad's sitting behind Liana," (likely a reference to Aliana, aka "Ali," her sister) and refers to "so-called friends." The rest is a timeline of the alcohol-awareness classes that "LL," as she refers to herself, took and missed during the period of time she was ordered to attend them."--Yahoo!News
